SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Firefighters were busy battling a brush fire that was threatening homes in Poway Monday afternoon. Fire crews were able to stop the forward progress of a 2-acre brush fire in Poway that broke out just after 1 p.m. Monday near a hiking trail by the intersection of Ted Williams Pkwy and Pomerado Road. SkyFOX/KUSI in the SKY was over the fire for over an hour and smoke and flames could be seen threatening nearby homes. At 2 p.m., the City of Poway and the sheriff's department announced evacuation warnings for residents on Glen Oak Road and Wilsey Way. Pomerado Road was also closed due to the emergency response. Authorities said the brush fire was being driven by the high winds and had the potential to grow. Cal Fire crews assisted at the scene and a helicopter was called in to provide air support.
