INDIANAPOLIS — The new year is only three weeks old and already IMPD is investigating its third domestic-related homicide of 2025. Rodney Nixon, 37, was shot to death after a disturbance at the Proctor Place Apartments on the westside shortly before four o’clock Monday morning. “At approximately 3:37 this morning officers received a radio run to 240 North Warman Avenue apartment 211 on report of a disturbance possibly a person shot. Upon arrival officers located a adult male With wounds consistent with a gunshot wound on the second floor outside of apartment 211,” said IMPD Captain Don Weilhammer. “Indianapolis IFD medic unfortunately pronounced the adult male at 3:48 A.M. what we know so far is one it’s very early in the investigation, so anything is subject to change, and two there was some type of disturbance going on between known parties.” The scene of a shooting on Warman Avenue. Police recovered three guns and interviewed two people, including a young male. “I did not see him so I’m not sure as far as the age, I don’t know if that is a witness or not, of if it came from the apartment that was involved,” said Weilhammer. A woman was questioned and released pending a charging decision by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office. Two other women lost their lives earlier this month during a pair of domestic homicides. Nixon’s ex-wife lives in the apartments. He was prohibited from possessing a gun due to a previous felony conviction. Weilhammer had some advice for former loved ones who find they can no longer get along. “It’s a conflict. You know if you can’t solve it right then and now I understand, turn and walk away. It’s better than resorting to this type of violence.”
