Buckeyes' playoff run sparks memories for families of babies born around last win

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Families whose children were born around the last time the Ohio State Buckeyes won a national championship are reminiscing about what they were doing a decade ago.
"You think about the last time the Buckeyes were there and what you were doing and yeah, it's a very different situation now," Monica DeMeglio said.

Her son, Peter, was born at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) a couple of weeks after the 2015 title was won. At the hospital he was wrapped in a "Born a Champion 2015" blanket. Monica recently took a picture of Peter holding that same blanket.
“It was really special. To be an alum, to be an employee there at the university and then just to have a little extra recognition for the kids that year, that was really special," she said.
This year's playoff run has taken them on a trip down memory lane.
"I was 8.5 months pregnant when the Buckeyes won that last national championship and you’re watching the game and they make a big play, you want to jump off the couch and you have to really do that thoughtfully," Monica said.
It did not take too long for Peter to make his first visits to Ohio Stadium. From seeing the band to spring games and real games, he is a big fan. He knows what this year's team has done is not easy.
“The excitement and all the work the teams put in to get to the national championship," Peter said.
Jack Sawyer is Peter's favorite player. Unlike a few weeks before Peter's birth, there was a lot of jumping around in the DeMeglio household for Sawyer's scoop and score in the Cotton Bowl.
“I thought it was like a miracle because the way the ball bounced right into his hands," Peter said.
This time around, Monica is glad both kids will both be able to watch the game and understand what's going on.
“It’s so much fun to experience that as an alum and as a fan at any point in your life to see them win a national championship but to have a chance to watch it again with your kids, it's really special,” she said.
