Residents urged to drive cautiously as snow arrives
Jan 19, 2025
Crews worked overnight and are continuing this morning to treat roads in anticipation of winter weather today. Roads are being treated with rock salt, salt brine and Beet Heet. Crews will work to clear roads as snow accumulates.
Travel will be impacted this morning as snow moves in. Freezing temperatures overnight paired with recent rain can cause slick spots on roads. Drivers are reminded to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses as they typically freeze first.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Lexington until 7 p.m. tonight. Snow accumulation of up to three inches is possible. Expect low visibility while traveling due to snow showers and wind.
A Cold Weather Advisory is also in effect from 7 p.m. tonight to 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20. Wear multiple layers when going outside and limit exposed skin by wearing a hat, scarf and gloves.
The Office of Homelessness Prevention & Intervention Emergency Weather Plan remains in effect until Friday, Jan. 24. The plan includes expanded shelter services and free transportation to shelters. The Emergency Weather Plan and a list of shelters are available online. Residents who see someone who may need shelter should call LexCall at 311 to be connected with the Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention. After business hours, contact the Street Outreach team at (859) 551-8053 or (859) 556-1870. In case of an emergency, call 911.
