Indiana National Guard to support presidential inauguration INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — About 140 members of the Indiana National Guard are in Washington, D.C. to serve in protecting the nation’s capital during Monday’s presidential inauguration. At 12 p.m. on Monday, President-elect Donald Trump will once again take his oath of office, marking America’s 60th inauguration. The Hoosier national guardsmen will join 8,000 other guardsmen from about 40 states. “What our team will be doing is helping with some traffic control points,” Lt. Col. Amy Hoover, director of military support at the Indiana Army National Guard, said. “So, when people are coming in, helping them give them direction. Also, if we have crowds, we call it crowd management. If you have people lost or confused on the metro or on intersections, we’re helping guide and give them information.” The guardsmen are from all over the state, including Jasper, Plymouth, Monticello, Remington and Indy. The historic day marks the third consecutive inauguration the Indiana National Guard has participated in. Their work is built on years of preparation. “Well, on the preparation really it’s, for the National Guard, it’s one of the things that we do,” Hoover said. “We’re always ready to execute the inauguration. In fact, the very first inauguration National Guard was part of.”
