INDIANAPOLIS — Ascension St. Vincent's new women and infants hospital is officially open and operational. On Saturday, Ascension moved 76 patients — including 63 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) babies — from its old women and infants hospital on Township Line Road to the new hospital located at 2001 West 86th Street. In total, it took Ascension eight hours to transfer its patients from one facility to the other. The women and infants hospital is 268,000 square feet and features 109 private NICU rooms that will help keep babies requiring neonatal intensive care with their mothers. The facility also boasts 30 maternity suites, six couplet care rooms that allow mothers and babies to receive care in the same place, two laboring tubs and lactation support equipment. “Our new women and infants hospital will play a key role in developing and sustaining partnerships with community hospitals across Indiana who rely on us to handle the most critical medical situations," Ascension St. Vincent CEO Kevin Speer said via release. "The result will be lives saved." Ascension obtained funding for the project via its Care for Tomorrow campaign, which is chaired by Manning. The campaign has helped Ascension raise $47 million via philanthropic gifts.
