Come chat with our community during the Divisional Round matchup between the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders. It’s been a long, long, long, long Saturday. Ever since the Detroit Lions’ Week 18 victory over the Minnesota Vikings to clinch the NFC’s top seed, we’ve all been waiting for this team to kick off their postseason schedule. They were expected to be here, and we’ve waited all freakin’ season long to get to the part that really matters.
Detroit, still Super Bowl favorites as of Saturday afternoon, are ready to push this franchise to where they’ve never been before. A win over the Washington Commanders won’t quite get them there. They’ve been to the NFC Championship before—although they’ve never been there in back-to-back season, and that game has never been hosted by Detroit. But every Super Bowl run starts somewhere.
The Commanders themselves are tearing down some history. Their win last week in the Wild Card was the franchise’s first playoff win in 20 years. It’s a karmic experience, given this is all happening just a single year after finally exorcising owner Dan Snyder from the team. It’s amazing how quickly a franchise can turn around once a toxic culture is squeezed out.
Of course, the Commanders’ success goes beyond new ownership. New head coach Dan Quinn has his squad playing above their talent level, and second overall pick Jayden Daniels is having a phenomenal rookie season for a quarterback.
Can the Lions put an end to the Commanders’ Cinderella season or will Washington’s improbable run continue in Philly or Los Angeles?
