In anticipation of snow arriving Sunday morning, crews are working today to clear remaining ice and slush from roadways. Priority roads will be treated overnight. An additional crew is scheduled to come in at noon on Sunday.  A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Lexington from 1 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19. Snow accumulation of up to three inches is possible. Motorists are asked to stay alert, drive slowly and increase their following distance. Expect low visibility while traveling due to snow showers and wind.  A Cold Weather Advisory is also in effect from 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19 to 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20. The Lexington Fire Department urges residents to use caution with home heating equipment. Space heaters should be at least 3 feet away from combustibles. Generators and grills should never be used inside a home. The Office of Homelessness Prevention & Intervention Emergency Weather Plan remains in effect until Friday, Jan. 24. The plan includes expanded shelter services and free transportation to shelters. The Emergency Weather Plan and a list of shelters are available online. Residents who see someone who may need shelter should call LexCall at 311 to be connected with the Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention.
