TCSO warns of icy road conditions on mountain highways

(TELLER COUNTY)—The cold and snow are creating icy conditions on many roads throughout Southern Colorado. The Teller County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) is reminding drivers to stay safe and warm and not crowd snow plows as they clear the roads.
TCSO compiled a list of road conditions around the area around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, to inform travelers of how to prepare:
For those traveling east of Woodland Park, expect icy, snowy, and wet conditions on Hwy 24 between Maple Street in Woodland Park and I-25 around Colorado Springs. The image to the left is from COTrip of US Hwy 24 between Woodland Park and Manitou Springs.
For those traveling west of Woodland Park, conditions are also icy, snowy, and wet on Hwy 24 between Linderman Avenue in Buena Vista and Midland Avenue in Woodland Park. The image to the right is of road conditions on Hwy 24 between Lake George and Hartsel.

Colorado State Highway 67 between Hwy 24 at Divide and Golden Avenue in Cripple Creek is snowy and icy with snow-packed spots. The image to the left was updated around 10:15 a.m. on COTrip and shows CO 67 just south of Lazy S Ranch Road.
Road conditions north of Woodland Park are similarly icy, snowy, and wet on CO Hwy 67 between US Hwy 24 in Woodland Park and Y Camp Road, 8 miles north of Westcreek.

According to FOX21 Storm Team Meteorologist Megan Montero, a winter weather advisory has been issued with extreme cold warnings, with difficult driving conditions expected to continue, possibly through Tuesday. Wind gusts will make the temperatures feel even colder.
Frostbite danger will be very high, so stay indoors as much as possible, keep excursions outdoors brief, and bundle up when it's necessary to go outside.
