Family of 6, dog displaced by apartment fire in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- A family of six and their dog are without a home after a fire broke out in their apartment unit on Friday evening.
Just after 5 p.m., Pete Piringer with Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) said crews were at a two-story apartment in the 100 block of Duvall Lane. When they got there, smoke was showing from the roof.

The fire had broken out in a first-floor apartment. The fire - which started in the fireplace - extended to the carpet before being extinguished.
A dog was home at the time and was safely rescued by firefighters.
No one was hurt, but a family consisting of two adults and four children was displaced.
