LCFRS reminded residents that frozen bodies of water are dangerous even if the ice looks thick.
Anyone who comes across frozen water should remember these tips:
Make sure pets are on a leash and do not follow them onto the ice if they slip out of the leash.
If your pets call into the ice, do not attempt to rescue them but instead, call 911.
Make sure children understand the dangers of frozen ponds and lakes.
You don't know how thick or sturdy the ice is and thin ice can break under weight leading to a potential drowning or hypothermia.
