Maximum capacity: 300 dogs waiting to be adopted at Fresno Animal Center
Jan 17, 2025
FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Fresno Animal Center announced Friday they are operating at critical capacity, with hundreds of dogs waiting for their chance of a forever home.
Officials with the shelter say that they were operating at critical capacity - 300 dogs, including 70 newborn puppies and their mothers.
They ask for the community's help in clearing their facilities and have announced adoption fees are being waived. They say all adoptions include sterilization, vaccines, flea and tick treatment, microchipping and a starter gift bag for the new addition to the family. To learn more, click here.
Can't adopt? The Fresno Animal Center has other ways for people to help clear their shelters without adopting:
Reclaim a lost pet. Those who have lost a dog can visit their website or come to the shelter in person to check for their missing pet. Like adoption fees, reclaim fees have also been waived.
Foster. Foster homes help relieve overcrowded kennels, enabling the shelter to accept more animals and avoid resorting to euthanasia. There is no cost to foster, and all necessary supplies will be provided. Foster owners can foster for as long as it works for them.
Reunite lost pets with their owners. The animal center encourages anyone who finds a healthy and friendly dog to try to find the owner instead of bringing it to the shelter. They add they offer free services such as posting the dog on their website, providing vaccines, dewormer, food and even spay/neuter services.
Microchip, dog tags, and sterilize pets. The shelter offers free microchips and dog tags to Fresno residents in case their pet goes missing. Several organizations also collaborate with the shelter to offer affordable sterilization services. For more information, click here.
Volunteer.
Comply with leash laws. All dogs are required to be on a leash when outside of their home.
The Fresno Animal Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday to Wednesday and is closed on Thursdays and federal holidays. It is located at 5277 E. Airways Blvd.
