Time is running out for basketball fans to vote for their favorite players in the NBA All-Star voting. Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. Jan. 20. Unless things change, Donovan Mitchell is the only player from the 34-6 Cavaliers who will be starting among the Eastern Conference players in the All-Star game set for Feb. 16 at Chase Center, home to the Golden State Warriors. The most recent tabulation by the NBA was announced Jan. 16. LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets leads the Eastern Conference guards with 1,908,967 votes. Mitchell is second with 1,554,204 votes. Darius Garland of the Cavs is eighth among guards in the East with 397,897 votes. Fans account for 50 percent of the voting. A media panel and current players each count for 25 percent. Fans can vote by going to vote.NBA.com. Two guards and three front-court players from each conference will be named as starters. TNT will reveal the NBA All-Star Game starters on Thursday, Jan. 23 and the reserves on Thursday, Jan. 30. The best chance for Cavaliers big men Evan Mobley and/or Jarrett Allen to make the All-Star team is as a reserve. Mobley ranks sixth in voting for the front court with 480,667 votes. Allen is 10th with 344,361 votes. Giannis Antetokounmpo leads the East frontcourt with 3,489,596 votes — the most cast for any player in either conference. Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum in second place (2,842,956) and New York Knicks center-forward Karl-Anthony Towns (2,445,331 votes) is in third place in the East frontcourt voting. The NBA decided change was needed in the All-Star format to create fan interest. Last year the East beat the West, 211-186, in a contest that featured little defense. This year the All-Stars will be divided into four teams of eight players. Three will be from the NBA as voted on by the fans, players and media. The fourth team will be the winning team from the championship game of the Rising Stars, which features first- and second-year NBA players and NBA G League standouts. The Rising Stars championship will be played on Friday, Feb. 14 during NBA All-Star 2025. The four teams will meet in a mini-tournament involving three games. Two teams will meet in one semifinal and the remaining two teams will meet in the other semifinal. The winning teams from Game 1 and Game 2 will advance to face each other in the championship. For each game, the winner will be the first team to reach or surpass 40 points.
