Weather forecast: Saturday rain/snow before the arctic air arrives
Jan 17, 2025
ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - You know, this feels like Mother Nature trying to do us a solid before what's coming next week. Friday temperatures climbed above freezing, slowing eating away at some of that snowpack. Southerly winds overnight will keep temperatures relatively steady with tomorrow remaining in the middle and upper 30s toward lunchtime.
A cold front will sweep through Saturday early afternoon. That's the front marking the leading edge of a slow bleed of arctic air set to pour into the region. Temperatures will start to fall late Saturday behind that front. Temperatures Sunday will be warmest after midnight, falling through the course of the day. Our Bills game will be played with temperatures in the teens and wind chills in the single digits.
And that's nothing. The core of the coldest air will affect the area Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (especially Tuesday and Wednesday morning). The trio of those days will feature highs not getting out of the teens and wind chills as cold as -20°. That's getting into dangerous territory and could very well require cold weather headlines from the National Weather Service.
While milder air has taken over, make no mistake. Cold is coming. Our latest forecast wind chills drop as low as -15° to -20° in the Rochester area next week. Others will be even colder. This is teetering on dangerous territory & could require cold weather headlines from the NWS. pic.twitter.com/bUI9JDJB8o— Eric Snitil (@EricSnitilWx) January 17, 2025
Temperatures will slowly start climbing again late next week.
