Snow, ice accumulations possible along Gulf Coast as winter storm hits Tuesday
Additionally, a hard freeze is expected for several nights up until Thursday, Jan. 23 where both sides of the lake will possibly see ice, rain, and maybe snow.
Ahead of the winter drop, the New Orleans Police Department's Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said in a news conference Friday, Jan. 17 that roads and bridges will be closing in anticipation of icy road conditions.
"We are going to ask that people stay home. This is the day for you to talk to your employers about allowing you to stay home. With traffic impacts, it's going to be a situation in which we are going to start closing streets before they become a safety risk," said Kirkpatrick.
She adds that a declaration was made for her staff that only essential employees will be working Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Some schools have announced either a full closure or virtual learning ahead of the weather.
