SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - The Chatham Area Transit Authority (CAT) has announced the upcoming launch of two new hybrid ferries. According to a report by the Federal Transit Administration, over 670 ferry vessels are currently operating in the United States, with only six utilizing hybrid systems. The two state-of-the-art 65-foot hybrid vessels represent a significant step forward in eco-friendly public transportation. “Investing in hybrid ferry technology is not just about improving our transit services—it’s aboutsetting a precedent for sustainable innovation,” said CAT Board of Directors Chairman, DeidrickCody. “The Susie King Taylor II and Juliette Gordon Low II ferries are a testament to ourcommitment to a greener, more connected future for all.” The Savannah Belles Ferry Service currently connects City Hall Landing, the Savannah Convention Center and the Waving Girl Landing. The two ferries were named the Susie King Taylor II and Juliette Gordon Low II. The two ferries were christened in New York and are expected back in Savannah in the spring of 2025.
