Delano PD releases body camera footage after social media posts allege excessive force

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Delano Police Department released body camera footage and an update to social media posts alleging excessive use of force.
Officials with the Delano Police Department say the Kern County District Attorney's Office is investigating the case and has authorized the police department to release evidence, which included Officer Chavez's body worn camera video.
The department posted a 27-minute video, without audio of the incident to social media and said the district attorney's office authorized that the audio, unrelated persons and law enforcement sensitive information be redacted.

The police department previously stated no evidence of excessive force was found during the officers' contact with an alleged gang member.
Police say on the night of Dec. 21, 2024 officers were patrolling the area of Jefferson Street when they contacted and detained a Norteno gang member who was on parole for robbery. Two other gang members ran, according to officials.
The person detained cooperated and was not injured, according to police. He was photographed and no injuries were visible.
After his release he went to an emergency room and said he was in pain from the handcuffs and being hit in the face, according to police.
A department review found that no assault occurred.
