Providence police officer hit by car during funeral escort

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence police officer suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car in Cranston.
Police say Providence and Cranston police were escorting a funeral procession in the area of Cranston and Seneca streets when an elderly driver went to turn and hit the officer, who was on a motorcycle.
The officer was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Cranston Police Maj. Todd Patalano said based on witness statements, charges may be filed against the driver.
The crash remains under investigation.
