FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A new café in Fresno is promising patrons an authentic Mexican taste, colorful and festive décor and perhaps the biggest concha anyone has ever seen.
Con Azucar Café is a Mexican-American food chain that traces its roots back to San Jose. Its new Fresno location has only been open for a couple of days and the owner says it has already received more interest than they could have ever anticipated.

"Honestly, I didn't think it was going to be like this this morning," Owner Edgar Muñoz said. "We got surprised, but we're happy."
Muñoz says the restaurant only announced its soft opening on social media as it worked to get fully staffed, but once the announcement went out it was inundated with clientele.
According to Muñoz, the café was his friend's idea.
"This friend of mine came once to visit me here at, La Michoacána [Plus]," Muñoz said. "He's like, 'Hey, why don't you open, you know, why don't you sell coffee here?'"
Muñoz says he hired a designer and with his friend, he opened up Café Con Azucar in the vacant space inside La Michoacána Plus. Muñoz says he's glad to be able to bring the classic tastes of Mexico to south Fresno.
"We have Chocolate Abuelita like in Mexico - conchas, cuernitos," Muñoz said. "We have this big old concha that's been viral since [Con Azucar Café] opened in San Jose."
Customers like Imelda Cruz waited nearly an hour to get their hands on their food but says it was worth the wait.
"We wanted to lose weight," Cruz said. "But then we decided to come here before starting our diet."
"I'm from Guadalajara," Cruz said. "The colors and everything here reminds me of Mexico."
According to Muñoz, Café Con Azucar's grand opening will be on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 6 a.m.
