BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The suspect accused in the 2011 hit-and-run crash that killed former Kern High School District police chief Steve Alvidrez was arrested Wednesday at Los Angeles International Airport, according to arrest records. David Lopez Lilly, 37, is due in court Friday to answer to charges of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and more, according to court records. He's being held without bail. He would be abundantly proud of the professionalism and honored that this tragedy has ended with an arrest. Our entire family and community can have some closure knowing this person can’t hurt us or anyone else now that he’s behind bars." Alvidrez, 52, was killed shortly before midnight on June 17, 2011, when a car slammed into the Harley-Davidson motorcycle he and his wife Ramona were riding on Highway 99, just south of Delano. Subscribe Now 17 News Alerts SIGN UP NOW California Highway Patrol investigators interviewed Lilly -- who had a 2000 gold Cavalier, according to court filings. He admitted being in a crash that night but said he couldn't recall anything else because he was drunk. A partial imprint of Alvidrez's motorcycle was found on the front bumper of Lilly's car, which had front end damage, filings said. Lilly was indicted in 2012 -- but couldn't be found. It's not yet clear how he was located, or where he spent the intervening years.
