(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Wednesday, Jan. 15 Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services (PRCS) announced its plans for 2025 with the goal to improve parks, trails, and open spaces in the city. According to PRCS, a major highlight of its 2025 plan is the update to the 2014 Parks System Master Plan, which develops a vision for the city's parks system over the next 10 to 15 years. The project will start with data collection followed by public engagement and outreach. “Colorado Springs is a remarkable place to live, known for its natural beauty and diverse recreational and cultural opportunities,” said Lonna Thelen, Manager of PRCS Design and Development Division. “We look forward to the exciting work that will take place in 2025 as we continue to create a vibrant and accessible parks system.” Other key projects include the construction of Grey Hawk Park in the first half of the year, and the Stratton Neighborhood Park which is currently in the information-gathering stage. Veteran's Memorial in Memorial Park is slated for improvements and enhancements to urban trail connectivity are planned, including the development of the Rock Island, Legacy Loop, and Sand Creek trails. PRCS said it is also committed to current projects such as the reclamation of the Black Canyon Quarry, the development of the Blodgett Open Space Master Plan trail system, and the finalization of the Fishers Canyon Open Space Master and Management Plan.
