Potential for damaging cold next week
Jan 16, 2025
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A lot of uncertainty next week about the winter weather and how cold we could get. In the short term look for mid to upper 30s Friday morning for most of the area with low 40s in the metro. Friday afternoon we see more clouds with mid 60s.
At the moment the next big front is set to move through on Saturday. Expect showers and storms through the first half of the day Friday with highs around 70. Use that warmer weather to starting wrapping pipes and faucets in the northern half of the area. Sunday will be windy as we see temperatures falling through the 40s. By Monday morning some areas will see mid 20s norht with upper 20s south.
It looks like we will see a hard freeze several nights in a row through early Thursday in areas north of I-10. It's possible by Wednesday morning we see mid 20s through the river parishes as well. South shore expect upper 20s so plants will need to be covered. Exactly how cold we get is still up in the air but stay tuned through the weekend.
In terms of precipitation, Tuesday is the day in question. There's a chance we see ice, snow, rain, some combo of all three, or nothing at all. We are just too far away to make that call. However if any moisture does fall it would likely create icy road conditions Tuesday and potentially through Wednesday as well. Get prepared now and stay with us at WGNO for the latest.
