BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) - The Baton Rouge Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Foundation updated the public on two of their major projects to curb crime. Baton Rouge resident Renauta McClay said she lives two blocks away from where the new "Inspiration Center at Howell Park" is taking shape. "As they put stuff together, I hope it lightens up the mood in the neighborhood," said McClay. "I know it's chaotic around here at night."The center is part of a more than $8 million project community leaders are pouring into to help an area that is said to need it the most. Anthony Kimble with Kimble Properties, and others like him, said they're excited to contribute to the project, which will offer things like mentoring by the Boys and Girls Club, sports, swimming, technology, music, a video game arena, meeting spaces and a podcast center. "I started high school at Istrouma High, down the street from where the center would be, and I understand the need there,” said Kimble."This is a model based off of 'The Promise Center' in Atlanta and as Chairman Young said, this is modeled after that," said Alex Byo, of Thirty-Three Strategies. "They've seen a correlation between filling voids in the lives of youth, with something positive."               Kimble said it's planned to open this fall. Meanwhile, police said crime cameras from the "Page/Rice Public Safety Initiative" helped find the suspects from the Christmas parade shooting. Authorities plan to bolster this type of technology moving forward to keep our streets safer. McClay appreciates their efforts."It’s more helpful for the community, to have things going on," she said. "It brings more people together, they can do more activities. Kids have places to go, people have places to calm down."
