COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Excitement is continuing to build in central Ohio for the Buckeyes’ final game of the season: The national championship game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. That even includes people in Columbus who live on a street named Notre Dame Place on the east side of town. Neighbors on Notre Dame Place said don’t even think about calling them Fighting Irish fans. Residents are definitely rooting for Ohio State in Monday's title game. “Oh, a lot of Ohio State fans in here obviously. Everyone is excited. As you drive through here you’ll see OSU flags flying,” said Notre Dame Place resident and Buckeye fan Lamar Love. “It’s just a street. I still bleed scarlet and gray.” Notre Dame Place is packed with Ohio State fans despite the name and among them is former Ohio State professor Dr. Michael Bissell. He said he never gave living on Notre Dame much thought until the week before the big game. “I think what a contradiction. But I had no idea of knowing that Notre Dame would have the significance that it does today,” said Dr. Bissell. “There are no Notre Dame fans in Columbus on Notre Dame Place.” Comparing Ohio State and Notre Dame’s most recent championship teams One neighbor said he didn’t even put it together until recently. Todd Seymour is such a huge fan that he will be in the stands at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta Monday. “This is an interesting little turn of events here that we’re playing Notre Dame in the national championship. You know, it’s fantastic,” said Seymour. “This is more French. It’s more about the cathedral instead of the college.” Love said he has been well aware of the name with his friend even pointing it out to him when he first moved to the street. “He was like, ‘What? You moved to Notre Dame Place?’” said Love. “I was like yeah. He doesn’t like Notre Dame so he was like, ‘I don’t know man. I don’t know if I can come visit you anymore.’” Dr. Bissell said he’ll be watching Monday from his home. “It’ll be the game of a lifetime,” said Dr. Bissell. But other neighbors, including Love, said they will not be on the street the day of the match. “I’m getting off of Notre Dame for that day.” said Love. It’s clear when you drive down the street that there are a lot of Buckeye fans behind many of the doors. Neighbors said they look forward to putting their street’s name to shame.
