BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Some Louisiana parishes have declared a state of emergency due to a forecasted winter storm.
Louisiana will have very cold weather and a chance of a winter storm starting Monday, Jan. 20. A state of emergency would let the parish act to ensure citizens' safety.
On Jan. 17, East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sid Edwards declared a parish-wide emergency.
"Use this time to prepare your families and homes for the upcoming weather conditions," Edwards said.

Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment declared a local emergency for the weather. He stressed the need to focus on residents' safety during the storm. The local state of emergency will remain in effect until further notice, parish officials said.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry released a video to remind citizens of some winter safety tips.
"Remember the four P's: people, pets, plants and pipes," said Landry. "Make sure your loved ones and neighbors have the supplies they need and stay off the roads when it's icy."
