WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Amtrak announced Thursday several ways travelers coming to and from Union Station could be impacted due to events surrounding the Presidential Inauguration. Commuters should keep in mind that it will take extra time to get to the station because of special pedestrian and vehicle traffic patterns around the area. There will also be very limited access to taxi and rideshare services - or no access at all. January 18: Large crowds are expected for the Women's March starting at 10 a.m. The Georgia Ball will be held at the station between 7 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The east side of the station will close beginning at 6 p.m. Two of the Main Hall doors, the main concourse, the ticket office and the west side of the station will remain open for customers. Inauguration Day 2025: Everything you need to know January 19: Union Station's Main Hall will close in the evening, with entry and exit on the west porch only. Road closures begin at 4 p.m. in preparation for the Inauguration. January 20: The Main Station Hall will be closed all day, along with all entrances. Only the west porch will be open. Heated buses will be set up outside of the west porch on First Street for anyone needing to get out of the cold while waiting to get inside. Amtrak's ticketed office and new temporary ticketed passenger waiting room will be closed. Rebooking transactions will be limited and only cashless. All food, beverage and retail establishments inside will be closed for the entire day. Passengers should expect all amenities to be closed and to use the station to board their train. Traffic can enter the parking garage only until 5 p.m. No one can leave the parking garage between 7 p.m. and midnight. Taxis will be on the H Street side behind the station. The closest drop-off location will be at 1st and G Streets. Passengers who are arriving on Amtrak, MARC or VRE will be directed to the back pathway near Gate A, down to the Metro entrance/exit. Parcel Check and baggage storage will not be available. Red Cap assistance will be very limited and restricted to the west porch. Customers with disabilities or those requiring assistance should make requests ahead of time by calling 1-800-USA Rail. It will be difficult to get dropped off near the station due to the fencing and road closures. Before 5 p.m., the best place to enter the station is through the parking garage or the Kiss & Ride cell phone lot on the bus deck at 101 H. Street NE, where there is an ADA elevator that will take you into the station. Customers are encouraged to be dropped off at a Metro station and use the Red Line to get to Union Station or select an alternate Amtrak boarding station, such as Alexandria, New Carrolton or BWI. Station restrooms as well as outside portable restrooms will be available. For updates and more information, click here.
