Brandywine Valley SPCA, officials rescue deer stranded in icy Potomac River

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) Animal Control team as well as the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and DC Fire and EMS joined forces to rescue a deer that was stranded on the icy Potomac River near the Key Bridge.
Just before 8 a.m., community members informed BVSPCA Animal Control Dispatch of a deer stranded in the Potomac River.

BVSPCA coordinated with first responders to quickly handle the situation.
“We’re deeply grateful to the community for reporting the deer in distress and tothe fearless responders from MPD and DC Fire for saving a life," said BVSPCA CEO Adam Lamb.
The deer was safely returned to land and soon after ran off unharmed.
“Just two weeks into providing Animal Control services for the District, we’reproud to celebrate this successful rescue,” said Lamb.
