TOPEKA (KSNT) - Part of Kansas Avenue in Topeka is set to close next week as part of a larger ongoing road work project. Joseph Harrington with the City of Topeka said in a press release that Kansas Avenue from First Street to Third Street will be shut down starting on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Workers will install a storm sewer pipe over the course of two weeks. Drivers are instructed to follow these detour routes while the project is underway: Northbound Kansas Avenue drivers will head west on Sixth Avenue, then go north on Topeka Boulevard up to Morse Street before turning south on Quincy Street. Drivers heading south on Kansas Avenue will turn west onto Morse Street before reaching Topeka Boulevard and turning south until they reach Sixth Street. Drivers will then head down Sixth Street until they reach Kansas Avenue. 2,600 drivers busted going 100 mph in Kansas in 2024 Harrington said this is part of the ongoing Polk-Quincy Viaduct project which is set to enter a new construction phase in 2025.
