PASQUOTANK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A Pasquotank County man who tried to evade a traffic stop Monday and drove at speeds of about 90 mph has been arrested and faces felony eluding and drug charges, the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office said. Nikari Nysheem Sylvester A Pasquotank County sheriff's deputy initially sought to pull over Nikari NySheem Sylvester, 26, of Pasquotank County, after his vehicle, a red 2010 Acura, was observed traveling 68 mph in a 55 mph zone on Body Road, at the entrance of the Queenswood Subdivision, the sheriff's office said. Sylvester's vehicle did not stop after the deputy activated their blue lights and siren, and he then led the deputy on a pursuit off of Body Road and into the Queenswood Subdivision, traveling at speeds up to an estimated 90 mph, the sheriff's office said. The pursuit ended abut four minutes and 2.35 miles later near Princess Anne Circle and Queenswood Boulevard when Sylvester's vehicle drove off the road and into a ditch, the sheriff's office said. The vehicle came to a complete stop after crashing, and deputies pursued Sylvester on foot before detaining him shortly after, according to the sheriff's office. At the scene, deputies seized a modified Glock 17 handgun, 1.51 grams of cocaine, 16 bindles of fentanyl, drug paraphernalia in the form of a weight scale and a powdered substance to be analyzed at the N.C. State lab. Sylvester faces the following charges: Fleeing to elude arrest (felony) Possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine (felony) Possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance (felony) Maintaining a vehicle to store a controlled substance (felony) Possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor) Resisting a public officer (misdemeanor) Reckless driving to endanger (misdemeanor) No operators license (misdemeanor) Failure to maintain lane control (infraction) Speeding (infraction) Sylvester is being held at the Albemarle District Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.
