CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WPRI) — A 23-year-old Cranston man is facing charges out of Cumberland after a crash that police say is connected to an armed robbery in Attleboro. Police say six masked suspected entered N&R Wholesale on Mann Street with firearms Tuesday afternoon and demanded cash from the owner. Courtesy of the Cumberland Police Department A short time later, police responded to a crash on Lusitana Avenue in Cumberland that involved a vehicle matching the description of one used in the robbery. The driver, 23-year-old Chance McKinney, ran off after the crash but was arrested a short time later. He is expected to be arraigned in court Thursday on the following charges: Possession of a stolen motor vehicle (first offense) Receiving stolen goods Possession of crack cocaine Obstructing an officer in the execution of duty Fugitive from justice Driving with a suspended/revoked/canceled license Duty to stop in an accident resulting in damage to an attended vehicle (2 counts) Duty to stop in an accident resulting in damage to a highway fixture Laned roadway violations (motor vehicle citation) Failure to file an accident report (motor vehicle citation) BACKGROUND: Armed robbery at Attleboro business leads to crash, arrest At the time of the incident, McKinney was out on bail for another charge out of Providence. He will be presented as a bail violator at a later time. Cumberland police also said their Flock camera system flagged two vehicles wanted by outside jurisdictions. Officers tried to stop one of the cars, but the driver fled into Central Falls. Police are now working to determine if either vehicle is linked to the robbery. Close Thanks for signing up!
