AM Headlines: Breezy, but Warmer Quiet Friday Wet Weekend Bitter Cold Next Week Discussion: It’s a chilly start with temperatures in the teens and 20s across the area. Winds will pick up today out of the west to southwest 10-15 mph with gusts upwards of 30-35 mph, with even strongest winds in the mountains. Temperatures will moderate back into the low 50s this afternoon. Friday will be mainly quiet with seasonable temperatures and clouds filling in late. A low pressure system will bring rain back to the region Saturday. We could see a brief sleet/freezing rain mix in the mountain before it changes to a cold rain area wide. More showers Sunday, with some snow for the higher elevations as cold air begins to spill into the area. The coldest temperatures of the season arrive early next week. Highs will struggle to get above freezing as lows fall into the single digits and teens. Watching for a low pressure system to track into the southeast out of the Gulf. If it moves further inland or near the Carolina coast, we could be dealing with some wintry weather as well, but it is still too early to make a call on that just yet.
