INDIANAPOLIS -- An investigation has been launched after a woman was killed in a residence fire on the near southeast side of Indianapolis Wednesday night. Firefighters with the Indianapolis Fire Department responded around 9:38 p.m. to the 1500 block of Hoefgen Street in response to a residence fire. IFD confirmed to FOX59/CSB4 that firefighters arrived on the scene and observed heavy smoke emanating from the residence. After forcing their way inside, firefighters located a woman suffering from "significant" burn injuries. The woman was later pronounced dead on the scene, according to IFD. At this time, investigators believe the woman lived at the residence. Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department also responded around 10:01 p.m. to the same residence to conduct a death investigation. As of this article's publication, IFD has not confirmed if any other individuals were inside the residence at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
