PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Committee of Interns and Residents SEIU said that 230 Care New England physicians at Butler Hospital, Women and Infants Hospital, and Kent Hospital voted to unionize.
The union said that the physicians aim to improve support for residents and fellows in order to attract more doctors to the state.
“The reason why we wanted to unionize is to ensure that we’re all able to properly care for our patients and continue to give 100%, while also being able to take care of ourselves,” third-year psychiatry resident Dr. Natalie Duke said. “We’re blessed to work with each other and with our patients, so winning our election is so meaningful for us as members of this community and as physicians.”
The union that added, including the physicians at Rhode Island Hospital-Brown University Health that voted to unionize, almost 1000 doctors in the state have joined the union.
