COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A young girl was seriously injured Tuesday when she was struck by a vehicle on a Colleton County roadway. The incident happened on Chestnut Road around 4 p.m., according to Colleton County Fire Rescue. Officials say the vehicle left the scene without stopping to help the 10-year-old; however, several bystanders came to her aid. Firefighter-paramedics treated the child at the scene for multiple traumatic injuries. She was then taken to the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Trauma Center at MUSC. Her current condition was not provided. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating. Anyone with information about the person who struck the child, or the vehicle involved, is encouraged to contact Highway Patrol or the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office.
