TOPEKA (KSNT) - Topeka's City Council will have two resolutions to consider Tuesday night involving new budget requests for a local hotel.
27 News looked over agenda documents for the Jan. 14 Topeka City Council meeting which includes two resolutions involving the Hotel Topeka. City councilmembers will consider these two proposals which, if approved, would add almost $175,000 onto the cost of repairing the building.
City Manager Robert Perez introduced both resolutions with the first having a price tag of more than $142,000 while the second resolution amounts to just over $32,000. The $142,000 is slated to go towards site repairs and improvements at the hotel while the $32,000 would go towards a service elevator.

Funding sources include "General Funds-Hotel Non-Departmental Expense" for the service elevator request and "Operating funds or General Obligation bonds" for the site repairs and improvements, according to agenda documents.
City leaders have made similar funding approvals to help keep the hotel running or to make necessary repairs since they made the decision to purchase the building in 2023. City councilmembers approved $500,000 to help operate the building in February 2024 and a little more than $72,000 in December 2024.
The Hotel Topeka was described as a ‘distressed asset‘ in 2024, with costs nearing $10 million in October 2024 after the approval of an additional $201,000 for the structure. Topeka leaders were informed late last year the hotel would see a nearly $900,000 net operating loss in 2025.
