(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal has appointed Emergency Response Manager Elizabeth "Lizz" Floro as Deputy Fire Warden for El Paso County. On Monday, Jan. 13, Floro was sworn into the role. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) says Floro's debut as Deputy Fire Warden marks a step forward in the county's wildfire management and emergency preparedness. "The Deputy Fire Warden position is critical to fire response preparedness, and it carries a tremendous responsibility to our community," said Sheriff Roybal. "Lizz will play a key role in making sure we are actively working to reduce the risk of wildfires, and when fires do occur we’ll be fully prepared to respond.” Floro was welcomed into the office in Dec. 2024 as Emergency Response Manager and oversaw the development and implementation of policies, training programs, and public education initiatives related to wildland fire management and impression. As Deputy Fire Warden, she will be responsible for ensuring coordination with local, state, and federal emergency management agencies. In addition, she will evaluate and improve the county's emergency response plans to ensure and prepare El Paso County. The new Deputy Fire Warden will also lead the El Paso County Wildland Fire Management team, which is responsible for protecting more than 2,100 square miles of unincorporated land across the county. Since the El Paso County Wildland Fire Management began in 1994, it has played a significant role in responding to hundreds of wildfires, providing fire suppression crews, conducting prescribed burns, and offering urban interface protection.
