The two EMTs were treating Vargas when he allegedly became agitated, kicking and punching the EMTs.
"Our first responders have a difficult job protecting and caring for those in our community who are harmed or ill," said Prosecutor Steve Alm. "Our emergency service providers treat some of the worst injuries and they provide outstanding care when we need it."
Assaulting an EMS provider while they are performing their duties is a Class C Felony, which carries a punishment of up to five years in prison.
Alm stated that protecting those who protect the community is paramount.
"We must take care of those who are entrusted with caring of our community and we will do our best to prosecute this case successfully," he said.
