Norfolk Southern and Amtrak to undergo improvements

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) -- The Norfolk Southern and Amtrak's DC-Norfolk are among the railroads expected to undergo improvements after receiving federal funding.
Congressman Bobby Scott (Va.-03) announced that the city of Chesapeake is expected to receive more than $1 million in federal grant funding from the U.S. Department Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Railroad Administration.
This funding was made possible through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that was signed into law by President Joe Biden.
The funding will be used to support grade crossing related improvements on Norfolk Southern owned infrastructure and Amtrak's DC-Norfolk route in Chesapeake. In September, Congressman Scott wrote a letter to DOT in support of Chesapeake receiving this funding.
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is a historic investment in our nation’s roads, bridges, airports, ports and rail systems,” said Scott. “And it continues to deliver for Virginia. This grant funding will help Chesapeake reduce delays and congestion at the Portlock Road crossing. This will improve convenience and safety for my constituents. I was proud to have supported this funding and will continue advocating for Hampton Roads to reap the benefits of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.”
