INDIANAPOLIS – A woman died and a man was in critical condition following a domestic situation and standoff on the northeast side.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 7100 block of Kingswood Court around 2 a.m. Monday after a woman was reportedly being held against her will.
Officers soon learned an adult woman and two other females were inside a residence with a man. The man refused to come outside or follow commands from police, according to William Young, a public information officer for IMPD.
Negotiators and the SWAT team were called to the scene. Despite several hours of negotiations, the man refused to come out. One of the women inside the residence was released unharmed.
Officers entered the home and found two people suffering from gunshot wounds--a woman and a man. The woman died from her wounds at an area hospital, Young said. The man was in critical condition and investigators believe his wounds were self-inflicted.
Police don't believe anyone else was involved and consider this an isolated incident. The case remains under investigation.
