Man arrested in connection to Emporia shooting of 13yearold

EMPORIA, Va. (WRIC) -- A man has been arrested in connection to the shooting of a 13-year-old that took place in Emporia last month.
According to the Emporia Police Department, they received a report of shots fired in the 200 block of Park Avenue on Dec. 15 at 7:52 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a 13-year-old that had been shot in the arm. The victim was then taken to a local hospital for treatment, and is currently expected to recover from the non-life-threatening injury.
An investigation indicated that the shooting happened during a "physical altercation during a party," according to the department. Additionally, there was surrounding evidence showing that two residences had also been damaged due to the gunfire.
The department said 20-year-old Arkee Porter, the suspect, was recently arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a firearm by a convicted violent felon, malicious wounding, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, maliciously shooting into an occupied dwelling and reckless handling of a firearm.
A search warrant was carried out after his arrest, prompting a firearm seizure.
Porter is currently being held at the Southside Regional Jail without bond.
