Don Rogers, journalism does matter. Your paragraph about Old Town (Viewpoints, Dec. 25, 2024) is offensive and, frankly, it is wrong. The inappropriate reference to Old Town follows: “It’s not really a residential neighborhood anymore, either, though some people still live there, their homes at night beacons between the stretches of dark in the off-seasons before the short-term renters and second-home owners arrive.” The statement is offensive to the many permanent residents of Old Town. You missed the lemonade stand hosted by our neighbor’s 4 year old. What about the regular neighborhood street parties attended by nearly all residents whether renter or owner, the D&R hosting of neighborhood movies in summer, the home baked cookies and the wine exchanges, the community collaboration on snow removal and snow piles? Young families surround us and are permanent residents of Old Town. Friends, down the street, have lived in their home for over 30 years. He was my builder during a recent remodel. Four duplexes under Mountainlands Community Housing Trust always are occupied with hard-working permanent Old Town residents.Very significant is the recent two years of planning, followed by a year of construction, and a million plus dollars to connect residential Old Town and Main Street, with the celebrated return of the free trolley! Our Old Town neighborhood, like many neighborhoods in Summit County, is struggling against home modifications that are approved as single-family residences but are used as small hotel nightly rentals. This practice spoils our neighborhoods. It does not make a community. Help us to maintain our beloved neighborhoods without disparaging.Sherie HardingOld TownThe post Still a neighborhood appeared first on Park Record.
