ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – One driver is arrested after attempting to run from Gates Police, eventually crashing into a ditch and fleeing on foot Friday.
According to Gates Police, officers were dispatched to Elmgrove Road around 4:00 p.m. for the report of a vehicle stopped in a turning lane for 30 minutes. When Police arrived, the vehicle turned off the roadway onto a soccer field, through a parking lot and then returned going north on Elmgrove Road.
Police say as the vehicle eventually approached the city, New York State Police deployed spike stripes, taking out two tires of the vehicle. Officers continued to follow the vehicle westbound on I-490 as it eventually ended up back in Gates. From here the driver turned down Cole Avenue off of Long Pond Road and crashed into a ditch, fleeing on foot.
With assistance from the Monroe County Sheriffs Office K9 Unit, Police were able to arrest the driver and take them into custody without further incident.
This is an ongoing investigation, and details surrounding charges filed in the Town of Gates Court have yet to be released.
Gates Police note there were no injuries as a result of the chase.
