NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — With another light layer of snow possibly heading our way, a lot of us are getting prepared.  Taylor’s Do It Center off Colley Avenue is ready for the forecasted snow and is here to help people purchase shovels, heaters and salt.  “Are you ready? Don’t sit there. Get ready,” said David “Doc” Price, assistant manager at Taylor's Do It Center. Price advised that if you get salt, it will be the most effective before the snow falls. “So what I say is, at 6 o’clock, throw the rock [salt], put it on out there, and get it ahead of the place,” Price said. And it's going quickly. There are three different options available.  “The blue ice melt, which is chemically induced, is pet friendly as well, so it won't harm the cement that you can come over here with," Price said. "The one is a quicker melter because it has 3% magnesium in it, but it still is pet friendly. Then you go to the safe step, which is rock salt." Any of those types will help prevent slipping and falling if it becomes too icy.  “Throw it out wherever you have a driveway or sidewalk," Price said. "Don't forget to do your sidewalk or your pathway in front of your house." If you get a space heater to warm up your house, keep it away from flammable objects and do not leave it on when you go to bed.  “Cover your cars, cover the windshields," Price said, "[and] cover anything that you figure that you're going to need the next day."
