Slidell man sentenced in 2023 home invasion

SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — A Slidell man has been sentenced in a 2023 home invasion investigation.
On Tuesday, Jan. 7, the Office of District Attorney Collin Sims reported that 40-year-old Stuart Pratt was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter, aggravated burglary, conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary and home invasion.
On Sept. 5, 2023, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded to a call of a shooting at a home on Rue De La Paix, where they found a man who had been fatally shot on the kitchen floor.

According to deputies, the man, identified as Walter Lee, had reportedly entered the home while the home's occupants were lounging near a hot tub outside.
Court documents state a guest went inside the house to grab something when they encountered Lee, who was allegedly masked and armed. Lee and the guest then reportedly got into a fight, causing the homeowner to come inside.
The homeowner was reportedly shot in the back by Lee during the confrontation. The guest was then able to grab the gun after a struggle and fatally shoot Lee.
Court documents state an investigation revealed that four other people, identified as Pratt, Latoya Powell, Tamaya Powell and Tamarion Powell, were involved with the home invasion.

Investigators said that Pratt, Lee and Tamarion Powell went into the house while Latoya Powell and Tamaya Powell waited outside.
According to the district attorney's office, Pratt and Tamarion Powell were stealing items from the home while Lee stood guard. When Lee and the guest got into the fight, all four others ran from the scene.
Court documents state that Pratt allegedly drove to his former girlfriend's home, forced the front door open and ran into her bedroom before running from the scene after she called 911.

Detectives said surveillance video showed Pratt ripping his former girlfriend's doorbell camera down and stomping on it.
Latoya Powell, Tamaya Powell and Tamarion Powell all pled guilty to their charges related to the case in 2024.
On Tuesday, Pratt was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary charge and 30 years for the manslaughter, aggravated burglary and home invasion charges.
