FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- A poll released Tuesday and quickly dismissed by opponents as disingenuous, showed 43 percent of Allen County voters support bringing a casino to New Haven, while 41 percent oppose it. Seventeen percent of respondents answered "Don't Know." Among "informed" respondents, support for the $500 million proposal climbed to 54 percent, versus 36 percent against, with a six percent margin of error, according to Ragnar Research Partners. The support among New Haven residents was even greater, but so was the margin of error. "Overall support for the project has continued to grow as we head into the 2025 legislative session," said Zack Sand with All In On New Haven. "It's clear Allen County and New Haven strongly support the investment, jobs and economic benefits that the casino resort destination would bring." State lawmakers might use the poll to help decide whether to allow Full House Resorts to move its casino from Rising Sun, Indiana to the southeast corner of U.S. 30 and Interstate 469 in New Haven. Casino opponent Cathie Humbarger, with The Coalition For A Better Allen County, said the group had visited the Statehouse Wednesday. "Polls commissioned/funded by a stakeholder who has a financial benefit in the outcome can be manipulated to produce results favorable to the party with such interests," she emailed WANE 15. "Especially when the party is reaching a point of desperation with a bleak outlook for a positive outcome. "While interacting with legislators, we can see why a push poll which produces their desired results is needed by the opposing side. The poll released this week funded by Full House is a push poll and at best it is disingenuous." A "push poll" typically uses loaded, false information to sway, not gather, public opinion. In this case, pollsters shared pro-casino messaging with respondents. The poll reported a majority of voters who heard about the benefits of the New Haven proposal supported it. "The All In on New Haven campaign commissioned a poll to accurately gauge the level of support and opposition within the local community," said Sand. "Despite the opponents’ claims to the contrary, the data-backed research clearly demonstrates strong support for the project."  Ragnar Research Partners indicated the poll was conducted December 16 through December 18 of last year, but did not note how many people responded.  Read the full results below.
