BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Tanajae Smith didn't use his fists when he argued with others at nightclubs; he waited for them to leave, followed them -- then opened fire.
Smith, 25, faces a life term in prison after being convicted of two shootings following altercations at Casa Tequila Lounge and Brix Lounge in Bakersfield, according to a release from the District Attorney's Office.

A jury this month found him guilty of more than a dozen counts -- including attempted murder, shooting from a vehicle and multiple counts of assault with a gun.
"Individuals like Tanajae Smith demonstrate complete disregard for human life, utilizing firearms to commit acts of violence," District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer said in the release. "These individuals pose great risk to public safety, and we will pursue the maximum punishment to hold them accountable."
Smith faces up to 27 years to life in prison at next month's sentencing hearing.
In the first incident, Smith argued with someone at Casa Tequila Lounge on Oct. 9, 2022. He waited for the other man and his three friends to leave then followed them in a vehicle, according to the release.
Smith shot at the victims' vehicle, prosecutors said, hitting the driver in the chest. Authorities who responded to Highway 58 near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard found the victims were hit at least five times. They survived.

In late December 2022, Smith and his friends got into an argument with six people at Brix Lounge. Prosecutors said he used the same method as before, waiting from them to leave before following and shooting at them.
The victims were hit while traveling south on Calloway Drive. Again, no one died.
Bakersfield police stopped Smith's vehicle in January 2023 and found a loaded gun on the floorboard. Tests revealed the gun was used in both shootings, prosecutors said, and the vehicle was the same one from which Smith fired.
