The PGA Tour’s Sony Open in Hawai‘i, the first full-field tournament of the 2025 season, begins Thursday at Waialae Country Club. Among the competitors is Kaimukī graduate and 2006 HHSAA state champion Chan Kim, the state’s lone PGA Tour member. This week’s appearance marks Kim’s 51st career PGA Tour event. The three-time top-10 finisher has played Waialae twice before but has yet to make it past the cut. Hopefully, I’ll make the cut this year. It’s my third time around, so I’m hoping to get something going.” Kim is focused on maintaining confidence throughout the season. “There are times when my swing doesn’t feel right, and everyone goes through it. But the mentality out here is to find a way to make it work,” he said. “Sometimes, you just have to work with what you have, and that’s my mindset this year.” 'It's just great to be back home' - Kaimuki grad, 2006 HHSAA State Champion Chan Kim ready for third attempt at Sony Open in Hawaii starting Thursday https://t.co/MdWmpCm1sT #SonyOpen #PGATourHawaii #Hawaii #Golf 🤙🏽 @SonyOpenHawaii @HHSAAsports @KHONnews @khon2SportsTV… pic.twitter.com/Xi1ZES385c— Rob DeMello (@RobDeMelloKHON) January 9, 2025 The four-day tournament runs Thursday through Sunday.
