ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It's another example of it's not how you start, but how you finish. Richard Pitino and his UNM Lobo men's basketball team overcame a less than stellar first half to defeat the Wyoming Cowboys 61-53 in Laramie Tuesday night.
The Lobos shot a woeful 5-27 in the first half. The 19% shooting performance led to the Cowboys building a 14 point lead. The Lobos only scored 18 first half points and trailed 32-18 at the break. The second half was a different story as the Lobos outscored the Cowboys 43-21 with Donovan Dent leading the way. UNM's star guard finished the night with 22 points, 6 assists and 2 steals. Dent put the Lobos up for good on a drive to the basket that made it 49-48 with under 4 minutes left in the game.
Arizona transfer Filip Boravicanin scored a career best 16 points with 11 rebounds to help the Lobos. Reigning Mountain West Player of the Week, Nelly Junior Joseph, scored 12 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for his 51st career double-double. With the win the Lobos have won six consecutives games and have started the Mountain West portion of their schedule 5-0 for the first time. They are 13-3 overall. The Lobos will host San Diego State Saturday. The game has an 11 am start time on KRQE (CBS).
