ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Tuesday local leaders issued a proclamation, recognizing National Mentoring Month in January, while also highlighting a need for more mentors within the community. The idea is to honor local mentoring programs and organizations helping city youth. Rochester rolls out the red carpet for young hopefuls with mentor program Rochester Mayor Malik Evans and County Executive Adam Bello were joined by various organizations, including the Monroe County/Rochester Youth Bureau, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Rochester and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Rochester. Tuesday, officials talked about the importance of shining a light on what it means to be a mentor and helping to steer kids down the right path. "What happens is, when you take young people and you work with them, they often don't convey or are able to tell you the difference that you're making in that moment. But when you know what you know about mentoring, you know over time it doesn't matter," said Tony Jordan, the executive director of the Monroe County/Rochester Youth Bureau. Spotted Octopus Brewing Company looks to open in Rochester’s Neighborhood of Play Jordan emphasized that a good mentor could help make all the difference in the community.
