(KRON) -- The opening of the highly-anticipated Korean supermarket at Serramonte Mall in Daly City has been delayed. The grand opening scheduled for February was pushed back to March, according to the Jagalchi marketing team. The delay is due to recent construction issues, according to Jagalchi. The initial plan was for the 75,000-square-foot building to open by the end of 2024, KRON4 reported last summer. The supermarket said in October its opening was pushed back to early 2025. No exact date has been set for Jagalchi's grand opening. The date will be finalized next week. The supermarket will include Korean restaurant POGU — a dining experience to be helmed by Korean Michelin-starred chef Tony Yoo. He is currently the owner of Dooreyoo in Seoul. The supermarket released renderings of what it will look like inside (see photos below). Jagalchi replaces a longtime staple of the mall, JCPenney, which permanently closed in 2019. The building on the east side of Serramonte has been without an operating retailer since. Jagalchi joins a long list of established retailers at the mall, such as Target, Macy’s, Nordstrom Rack, Chick-fil-A and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Jagalchi adds to the two existing Korean supermarkets in the area: H Mart in San Francisco (by the Daly City border) and Kukje Supermarket in Daly City.
